Top 10 Things to See and Do in Sunamganj

In November 15 to 16, we total of 12 friends have explored the district of Haor in Bangladesh. As you all know one of the biggest Haor in this country named ‘Tanguar Haor’ is located in the Sunamganj district. It’s a small district of Sylhet division. It’s surrounded by Habiganj, Sylhet and mostly Indian Territory Meghalaya. You can even enjoy some mind-blowing view of Meghalaya from there.

So today I’m going to share the top 10 things to do and see in that amazing naturally beautiful place. We have enjoyed our time and that was a reunion of my college friends. They came from different districts, which were fun meeting with them again with a couple of year’s gap. Thanks to Facebook connectivity to make our plan real.

So let’s dive into the main content and learn what to do and see in Sunamganj in two days.

#1 Beauty of Barikka Tila

We Jumped in Barikka Tila

This Tila has amazed us due to its height and greenery beauty. Most importantly there is a beautiful river under this hilly Tila. The river has increased the beauty of this place a lot. That’s the best spot to take photos in Sunamganj, according to us, because we have taken the highest number of photos there. And most of our group photos are taken there.

There is no other option to go there except hiring a motorbike. We hired a motorbike from Tekerghat to see total 5 spots including Barikka Tila.

#2 Amazing Jadukata River

There are two different main viewpoints of the Jadukata River. The first one is from Shimul Bagan and the second one is from Barikka Tila. As everyone said, I found this river amazing from Barikka Tila. Some of my friends address that spot as ‘Ladhak’. Some sandy empty places remind the final scene of the movie ‘3 Idiots’.

This river is mostly known for its clean and blue water. Humayun Ahmed has said about this river in a few of his books. I was excited to see that place.

#3 Endless Tanguar Haor

We have arrived in haor is off-season, we were a bit sad about that. But the Haor didn’t disappoint us. That was as beautiful as possible. The Haor seems endless to me. We went to the watchtower and saw the beauty of this Haor.

A most important part of visiting haor is watching people there, working, catching fishes and living in countryside people. Everything amazed me.

We bathed in the clean water. The water is so clean that everything even 50 feet deep was visible.

#4 Spending Night in Tekerghat

I should mark this as number one fun thing to do in Sunamganj. You must have to experience this thing if you arrive here. Most importantly keep mind that, you are going there on a full moon night. When we went there, that was a highly moonlit night and it was an amazing experience.

Our boat reached Tekerghat in 7 PM and we went to the nearest bazaar to spend some time. We had a huge great Adda and talking with each other. At 9 PM we got back to the boat and our boatman told us that our food is ready.

There were about 6 to 7 boats around us and they were fully loaded with tourists. We sang songs and Roman was amazing in singing.

We ate our dinner at 11 PM and again started singing and watching moon.

We went to sleep at 3 AM and wake up at 6 AM. That was a really pleasant experience for me.

#5 Explore Shimul Bagan in Spring Season

Shimul Bagan Was Amazing

Shimul Bagan's experience for us was not that amazing, but it could be if we were there in the spring season. But we had lots of fun because of group fun chat and Jadukata River beside the garden. That is one of the best spots for taking photos.

#6 Indian Hills

You can enjoy the lots of high Indian hills from Barikka Tila, Tekerghat, Shimul Bagan, Lakhmichara or from Tanguar Haor. This part is known as Cherapunji in India.

#7 Hason Raja Museum

In Museum of Hason Raja

There are lots of things to see in the museum of Hason Raja. This legend has created enormous songs with unique tune and lyrics. People still listen to his songs.

#8 Niladri Lake, Lakmachora

Niladri Lake

This lake is famous for its blue and clean water. We loved this lake. We spend some time in the night and it was a splendid experience for all of us.

#9 Amazing Cooking of Local Boatman

We were a bit tensed about our food taste and quality. But the boatman was an amazing cook. He served the chicken with rice that was amazing for dinner. The next morning, they served ‘Bhuna Khichuri’. Oh god, that was the best meal of my life. I ate a lot.

#10 Friendly People

People are really friendly and there is zero chance to be cheated if you are a bit aware. Overall, that was an amazing experience to be on Sunamganj.
